Terry M. Ward
Director

Terry M. Ward, born and raised in St. Louis, was on the FRC courts with his parents and siblings before he even learned to walk. Growing up at FRC, Terry competed in junior tournaments and as part of a team, starting all four years as a member of the Marquette High School Boys’ Varsity Tennis team.

Terry began teaching tennis when he was 16-years old and continued teaching during the summers through his years as a student at Colorado State University.

    Director of Junior Development

When he returned to St. Louis in 2016, Terry made the decision to become a full-time teaching professional; through his own clientele, which included preschool-aged children through active seniors, he saw the importance of tennis as a truly lifelong sport, and how the value of playing tennis continued to increase with the age of the player.

At the end of 2022, Terry began a new chapter in his tennis teaching career when he was named Director of FRC’s Junior Development Program. While Terry still teaches adults in private and semi-private lessons, and in his popular Drop-in Drills clinic (featuring a different weekly skill or strategy, with an emphasis on doubles concepts), he now also plans and oversees the Junior Instructional Clinics (Tiny Tots, Beginner and Intermediate Orange Ball, and Advanced Orange & Green Ball), the Junior Competition Programs (Beginner Yellow Ball, High School Prep, Jr. Varsity and Varsity clinics), Tournament Practice, and FRC’s participation in the Gateway Tennis Tournaments. Terry knows the importance of getting the youngest FRC members off to a good start in tennis both technically and emotionally, as the enjoyment children have on the court is a huge determinant in their desire to continue their tennis development.
